Our test lab provides services to many well-known publishers, manufacturers and discount supermarket chains. AVTOP is truly independent: Technical advice and services are available for any customer that requires them. AVTOP is neither an institution of publishing, nor of industry. The accuracy and reproducibility of our test results are therefore our most valuable asset. Our open door philosophy guarantees reproducible results for customers as well as the reviewed — and sometimes heavily criticized — manufacturers.
Here you will find some examples of the results of our work:
|
magazine: audiovision |
The hardware section of audiovision is produced entirely by AVTOP, including all texts, tables and images.
Example PDF articles to download:
audiovision 09/2006: test procedure for AV receivers [83 KB]
(new test procedure)
audiovision 01/2006: recording quality of DVD recorders [2.398 KB]
(AVTOP codec test)
audiovision 01/2006: test reform [2.777 KB]
(new test procedures)

magazine: TV Movie Multimedia |
We regularly carry our tests of flat-screen TVs and DVD recorders, among others, for the magazine TV Movie Multimedia (a special supplement of “TV Movie mit DVD” with about 400,000 printed copies). |

|
internet project:Televisions.com (in planning) |
AVTOP is a conceptual adviser to, and produces the content for, the international internet project Televisions.com. Currently under development, the website aims to launch in January 2009. For this project we carry out TV tests and produce test reports, news, and service articles.
For the first time, an international publisher has put its faith in our work, with a very ambitious project. |

|
development of new test procedures |
We are constantly developing new measurement processes for leading technology magazines, as well as for our own internal use during product testing. These new methods provide transparent results and superior appraisal of product quality.
For example, we can supply you with extensive analysis of the HDMI picture quality or the quality of a video codec. You will search the market in vain for tools that match our standards, which is why we have developed our own highly meaningful procedures that we also use for in-house applications. |
production and quality control of test sequences |
In collaboration with datacolor and WLC (White Light Consultations), AVTOP produced test sequences for optimizing HDTV picture quality in the Swisscom network (Switzerland). Our services range from the initial concept through to final acceptance of the encoded video files. |
 |
|
product optimization |
We assist manufacturers in optimizing their products, with the goal of recognizing and eliminating weaknesses. For example: IPTV set-top boxes for Deutsche Telekom (T-Home). |
 |
|
usability testing for discount stores |
We advise renowned department stores and discount supermarket chains on the selection and improvement of their products. Our experience with a huge number of devices from various manufacturers makes us the ideal partner: We know the market well. While our customers prefer not to be listed here, you can be sure that you know their names. |
development and distribution of test signals |
AV T.O.P. Messtechnik GmbH
- develops its own test signals - is the European distributor of Joe Kane’s Videoessentials products. Store: www.videoessentials.de - is a technical adviser for test disc production by many well-known companies, including Rohde & Schwarz, Burosch and Peter Finzel |

laboratory studies |
We see research and development as a necessary tool to be able to deliver respectable work as an adviser in matters of current technologies. Most studies take place internally, but these are still frequently published, for example to highlight the advantages or disadvantages of individual technologies, or to examine myths or prejudices about various aspects of consumer electronics.

Plasma displays do NOT use more power than LCDs (Panasonic adviser in collaboration with AVTOP, 2006) [825 KB]
(in German)
Addition in August 2007: with the introduction of Full HD plasma displays, the tables have turned once again. The first high resolution plasmas that we tested consume between 200 and 450 Watts – depending on the movie scene and the size of the screen – and therefore significantly more power than comparable LCD TVs! |
